California ADU Law: AB 2533

Assembly Bill 2533 simplifies the process for legalizing older, unpermitted Accessory Dwelling Units. Let NeevStruct guide you through the process, bringing peace of mind and unlocking your property's legal value.

The Permitting Process

1. Initial Viability Assessment & As-Builts

1 - 2 Weeks

Our engineers conduct an on-site evaluation to verify if the existing structure qualifies under AB 2533. We measure the space and draft accurate "as-built" structural plans to present to the city.

Estimated Cost: $1,500 - $3,000

2. Structural Engineering & Retrofit Design

2 - 4 Weeks

We run the calculations and create the necessary retrofit designs to ensure your structure meets life-safety codes. We prepare the formal construction documents needed for city submission.

Estimated Cost: $2,500 - $5,000

3. City Plan Check & Permit Application

4 - 8 Weeks

The compiled plans are submitted to the local building department. We handle all "plan check comments" and provide engineer's response letters until the plans are approved.

City Permit Fees: Varies depending on Jurisdiction

4. Permit Issued

Congratulations! We hand you the stamped, approved structural plans. You can now pull the permit, hire a contractor for any minor required retrofits, and finalize your ADU's legal status.
